FREDONIA, N.Y.—Fredonia rallied from a three-goal deficit late in the third period to escape with a 5-5 tie against visiting Buffalo State tonight in a SUNYAC and Battle by the Lake competition at Steele Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sam Maddox (St. Louis, MO/Lindburgh) led the Bengals offense with two goals and an assist, and Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallinn, Estonia) had a goal and an assist.
- Ben Butcher (Bellingham, WA/Langley) and Colin O'Connor (Kankakee, IL/Providence Catholic) also scored, and Cody Symonds (Woodbridge, ON/Emily Carr) chipped in three assists.
- Fredonia opened the scoring six minutes into the game, but the Bengals answered quickly with a power-play goal by Vasjonkin for his 10th of the season.
- Buffalo State took the lead late in the opening frame on a strike by Maddox.
- Maddox extended the lead with his second of the game and eighth of the season just 1:05 into the seconds and Butcher's third of the year just over four minutes later put the Bengals in control.
- The Blue Devils pulled within two late in the second with a power-play goal.
- O'Connor's first of the year with 9:22 remaining in regulation reclaimed the three-goal advantage for the Bengals.
- Fredonia rallied late, however, scoring with just under five minutes remaining and then netted two more with the goalie out with 2:37 remaining and again with 1:24 left.
- Neither team could score in overtime, despite the Bengals holding a 5-0 advantage in shots.
- Buffalo State outshot Fredonia 39-36 for the game.
- Connor Minch (Manchester, NH/Manchester Central) finished with 31 saves in the tie.
FOR THE FOES
- Charlie Manley had two goals and an assist, and Jasper Korican-Barlay and Jacob Haynes had a goal and two assists apiece.
- Ethan Kirbis had five assists.
NOTEWORTHY
- Both schools earned a point in the season-long all-sports Battle by the Lake competition, keeping the score even at 7-7. Another point is on the line tomorrow.
