FREDONIA, N.Y. – After a slow start tonight losing a 3-set match to Fredonia, the Hilbert College women's volleyball team regrouped and captured a 5-set victory over Buffalo State College to improve to 4-10 overall.
Hilbert fell 25-14, 25-19 and 25-14 to the host Blue Devils (11-6). The Hawks didn't find their rhythm offensively while battling well-oiled machine. Fredonia took advantage of Hilbert's sluggish start and captured the win in the weekend tournament.
The Hawks moved forward in the night cap against cross-town rivals Buffalo State. Hilbert won the first two sets (25-20 and 25-14) before the Bengals rallied for a 26-24 and 25-13 set a wins to force the shortened 5th set.
Buffalo State jumped out to an 8-3 lead forcing the movement of each team to the opposite side of the floor/bench area. Hilbert rocketed back and outscored the orange and black by a 13-5 margin to win the match 3-2.
Torianna LeWand and
Ashley Repine, a pair of freshmen on the roster, led the charge and helped the Hawks head to the weekend conference match on a high note.
Hilbert has traveled to Pittsburgh tonight and will ready for the AMCC match at La Roche College tomorrow. The Redhawks (3-9) have yet to play a league game while the Hawks from Hamburg will look to even their conference record after a 1-2 start.
