Bears men and women swim past Purple Knights

Results

POTSDAM, N.Y. – SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams swept Saint Michael's College Saturday. The men defeated the Purple Knights 158-133 and the women won 150-134. 
 
The Bears men opened up the meet with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay with sophomore Jake McCormack (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) teaming with junior Ryan Hagadorn (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee), junior Zach Martin (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and junior Andrew McEwen (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) with a time of 1:41.60. McEwen claimed first place in the 50 Breaststroke (28.80) and the 50 Free (23.71). McCormack won another victory in the 100 Backstroke (59.53). Hagadorn took first in the 100 Breaststroke (1:02.98) and in the 100 IM (57.77). McCormack finished second in the 50 Backstroke (27.38). Hagadorn was also second in the 100 Free (49.19). Junior Jeremy LaClaire (Newport, Vt./Lowville) earned the win in the 1-meter dive with a final score of 168.60. McEwen joined junior Vladimir Moise (Ossining, N.Y./ Ossining/Pleasantville), junior William Stephens III (Medina, N.Y./ Medina) and senior Joshua Parker (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) to take second in the 200 Freestyle Relay. 
 
Senior Samantha Coombs (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) claimed first place three separate times. She won the 200 Free (2:06.77), 100 Free (57.09) and 500 Free (5:35.41).  Senior Iris Curtis (Lewiston, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) also claimed three victories alongside Coombs. Curtis secured wins in the 50 Backstroke (30.62), 50 Free (27.95) and 100 Backstroke (1:06.78). Junior Emily Pitz (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) took first in the 100 Butterfly (1:05.41) and claimed second in the 1000 Free (12:28.50). Junior Cassandra Hunter (Castleton, N.Y./ Maple Hill) notched a victory in the 50 Butterfly (29.07). Freshman Zoe Gliganic (Stony Brook, N.Y./ Ward Melville) took control of women's diving and claimed victories in the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter with scores of 179.65 and 176.10, respectively.
 
The Bears are back in action when they travel to Canton, N.Y. to face St. Lawrence University next Saturday, January 18, at 1 p.m.
