SUNY New Paltz Swimming Claim Two Wins on the Road at SUNY Oneonta

(RESULTS) Oneonta, NY -- The State University of New York at New Paltz swimming team captured a victory in its last dual meet of the season against SUNY Oneonta Saturday.

The Hawks traveled well as they captured two big wins. Both the men's and women's teams came out on fire, dominating the 400-yard medley relay. Sophomore Ethan Bonney had another big day taking first in the 1,000 yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Owen Rowlands also had a day to remember as he won the 400-yard individual medley going 4 minutes, 38.38 seconds and also winning the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:26.42. swimming green out at oneonta

"We had a lot of confidence coming off of the Western Connecticut win and it really paid off in the end," said SUNY New Paltz sophomore Mitch Chappell.

Freshman Zac Brown won the men's 200-yard backstroke in his second ever time racing it on the collegiate level. 

The Hawks women's team had some very impressive races. Freshman Kirsten Giovanniello won the women's 1,000-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly. Senior Chelsea Angulas had herself a day, as she aided in two relay victories and won the 200-yard backstroke despite a slippery start. 

Freshman Kelly Donlevy won the 50-yard freestyle and came in second in the 500-yard freestyle.

"Following the first break of the meet, everyone discussed how close the score was.  As a team, we embraced the competition and the opportunity to race," said SUNY New Paltz freshman Kelly Donlevy. "We went into the second half of the meet with the right mindset that led us to wins on both the women's and men's side."

Freshman Delilah Griger had an important win in the 100-yard freestyle, which helped turn the meet around as she finished in a 58.84. 

The meey closed with the men and women both capturing the 400-freestyle relay. For the men, Chappell led things off swimming a 52.31. Sophomore Jared Finn swam second going the fastest split in the relay with a time of 48.66, while freshman Alex Palmero went third going a time of 52.02 and Senior Tim Stecher anchored the relay to bring things home in a time of 50.42 with a finishing time of 3:23.41. Senior Chelsea Angulas led the Hawks women's relay going a time of 56.52. Senior Samantha Woll swam second going a time of 56.99, while Donlevy went third going a time of 56.52 and Giovanniello finished things up, swimming a 59.09 with the team finishing in a time of 3:49.12.

The Hawks will attend the Geneseo Invitational next weekend in Buffalo to get some practice in for The State Univeristy Of New York Championship meet.
