Women’s Basketball wins third straight, surges past Oswego, 61-43

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) and Katie Villarini (Hamburg/Hamburg) combined to score 42 points and grab 20 rebounds as Buffalo State extended its winning streak with a 61-43 win over visiting Oswego in SUNYAC action this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • LeBaron notched her 19th career double-double with a team-high 25 points to go along with 10 rebounds. 
  • Villarini chipped in 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
  • Anasah DeMember (Elmira/Elmira) added nine points, four rebounds and a team-high six assists.
  • Buffalo State scored the first 10 points in the contest but failed to maintain its momentum as Oswego trimmed the deficit to 12-9 after the first 10 minutes of action.
  • The Bengals pushed the lead back to 26-14, in the second stanza, on a three-point field goal by LeBaron with 3:54 left in the half.
  • The Lakers closed the half on a 12-5 run to cut the lead to 31-26 at halftime.
  • Buffalo State outscored Oswego 17-10 in the third frame and used a jumper by LeBaron at the buzzer to claim a 48-36 lead at the final intermission.
  • The Bengals used eight points by Villarini in the fourth quarter to clinch the conference victory.
  • Buffalo State forced 26 Oswego turnovers en route to a 22-2 edge in points off turnovers, while tallying a 12-2 edge in fast-break points.
  • Both teams shot 32 percent from the field with the Bengals connected on eight 3-pointers.  
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Raiven Encarnacion was the lone Laker to score in double-figures, finishing with 10 points.
  • Sydni Eure chipped in eight points and 15 rebounds, while Quincey Zimmerman added seven points and 12 rebounds.

Buffalo State will look to push its winning streak to four games as it hosts Cortland in a SUNYAC showdown tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Sports Arena.
