The Basics
Game 1 

Score: Roanoke 4, Pitt-Bradford 0
Records: Roanoke 1-2 | Panthers 0-1
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: The Maroons kicked off the 2020 Mountain Mash with a match up against Pittsburgh-Bradford. RC used a two-run third inning to propel them to their first victory of the young campaign.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke broke open a scoreless game in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Megan Lee drew a walk before a Rebecca Hensley double set the table for Brooke Trapuzzano.
  • RC scored their first run of the afternoon when Lee touched home plate on a passed ball, moving Hensley to third. Trapuzzano then delivered the Maroons second, double of the inning for a 2-0 advantage.
  • Jada Karnes got the start on the mound and held the Panthers to just a single hit through four innings, striking out four of the 15 batters she had faced.
  • The Maroons added to their lead in the top of the sixth when Rachel Sirbaugh drew a one-out walk. Meri Bostic then plated Sirbaugh with a double to left field, pushing the RC advantage to 3-0.
  • Karnes pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits while striking out eight.

The Basics
Game 2

Score: Roanoke 7, Fredonia State 1
Records: Roanoke 2-2 | FSU 0-1
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: The Maroons broke open a 1-1 game with six unanswered runs to pull away for the 7-1 win over Fredonia State.

How it Happened:

  • Hensley got hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on a Bostic single to stake Roanoke to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • The Blue Devils scored an unearned run in the top of the third to knot the game at 1-1.
  • However, the bottom of the frame would see RC re-take the lead. Hensley tripled to left center field and scored on an RBI single by Trapuzzano.
  • The Maroons would add to their advantage one inning later. Makayla Austin laced a one-out single to right center and advanced to second on a single by Kendall Penn. A Scarlett Sisson bunt single would load the bases. Hensley plated Austin on a SAC fly then Trapuzzano singled home Penn.
  • RC was back at it in the fifth when Jordyn DiFava singled to start the inning. Bostic drew a walk and a double steal put runners on second and third. Austin picked up a pair of RBI with a single pushing the lead to 6-1. Sisson added a SAC fly to close out the scoring.
  • Trapuzzano was 2-2 with a pair of RBI while Austin and Penn were each 2-3.
  • Olivia Simmons picked up the win, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up just the one unearned run.

Up Next: The Maroons will head south for Spring Break. They will play their first of 10 games at the Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. On Monday when they face Trine at 12:30 followed by a game with Neumann at 3:00pm.
