Kozikoski, DiCarlo Stay Hot in 4-2 Triumph

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomore Steven Kozikoski moved to 2-0 on the season and freshman Alex DiCarlo scored a pair of goals to lead Oswego to a 4-2 road triumph over Plattsburgh.  The win keeps Oswego in the hunt for the top seed in the SUNYAC Championships slated to begin at the end of the month.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Oswego 4, Plattsburgh 2
  • Location:  Ronald B. Stafford Arena – Plattsburgh, N.Y.
  • Records:  Oswego 10-8 (7-2 SUNYAC) | Plattsburgh 6-10-3 (3-5-2 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Late in the first, DiCarlo took a cross-ice pass down low from senior Michael Gillespie for the power play goal at 17:37.
  • The goal was DiCarlo's ninth point in his last six contests and Tyson Kirkby (6) got the secondary assist on the score.
  • Plattsburgh answered 34 seconds later when they threw a puck at the net and scored on a multiple-chance scramble in front.
  • The Cardinals outshot the Lakers 23-13 in the opening period, including 10-9 on-goal.
  • At 5:42 of the second period, Oswego took the lead on a goal by captain Josh Zizek after senior Jody Sullivan swung a shot on-net.
  • Zizek secured the rebound and drifted to the open, far side of the net for his eighth goal of the season.  Gillespie picked up his second assist of the night on the play.
  • In a mirror image of the opening goal, Gillespie swung a pass cross-ice to DiCarlo for his second power-play goal of the game with just under five minutes left in the stanza.
  • Junior Max Novick (13) got the assist on the goal while Gillespie notched his eleventh assist of the season in putting Oswego up 3-1 through two periods.
  • Midway through the third, with Plattsburgh pressing a 2-on-1, Joey Scorpio made a sweet diving play to disrupt the pass to the open man in front of the Laker goal.
  • Oswego played some stellar defense in killing off a pair of 5-on-3's in the back half of the third period.
  • The Cardinals pulled their goalie to use a 6-on-5 attempt with 2:12 remaining to cut the lead to 3-2.
  • Just thirty seconds later, with Plattsburgh still in an extra-man situation, Gillespie gathered the puck in the neutral zone and fired a shot into the empty net to ice the game.
  • Kozikoski made 31 saves while the defense in front of him blocked 25 shots on the night, led by Novick (4), Zizek (3), Tyler Currie (3), Tanner Spink (3) and Chris MacMillan (3).
