Rosén rises up to secure 1-1 tie at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- Goaltending and penalty killing were the keys to Fredonia State's 1-1 SUNYAC men's hockey tie Friday at Plattsburgh.

Senior goaltender Anton Rosén made 45 saves while he and his teammates successfully killed six Plattsburgh power-plays to earn an important point on the road.

All the scoring happened in the first period. Victor Tracy scored for the Blue Devils (1-2-1 overall, 0-2-1 SUNYAC) while Matt Araujo had the Plattsburgh goal.

Cardinal goaltender Jimmy Poreda made 24 saves.

Fredonia State took a 1-0 lead when Ethan Kirbis won the draw and sent the puck back to Tracy, whose wrister beat a screened-off Poreda high on the short side. It was Tracy's first goal of the season and the fourth assist of the year for Kirbis.

The Cardinals pulled even 1-1 on Araujo's third goal of the year. He picked up a puck in the slot and skated to his left to score from a wide angle. Earlier in the period, Araujo had an apparent goal waved off when the Cardinals were called for goaltender interference.

Araujo was the game's most active skater with 15 shots, nine of them on goal. Charlie Manley took six shots total and Jacob Haynes had four shots-on-goal for the Blue Devils, who conclude their annual trip to the north country with a visit to Potsdam on Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Potsdam was defeated Friday by Buffalo State, 6-3.
