Golden Eagles Take Down New Paltz at Home

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport men's basketball team improved to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the SUNYAC after defeating New Paltz, 88-59, at home Saturday. Brockport outscored its opponent by 27 in the second half and is now 7-0 at home.
 
Jahidi Wallace led the way with 17 points and seven boards, shooting 11-for-12 at the charity stripe. Danny Ashley put up 14 points, five assists, and four steals as he has now scored double-digits in scoring in two straight games for the first time this season.
 
Tyler Sullivan scored 13 points off the bench, while Tyler Collins had 10 points of his own. Devante Hagins impacted the game on both ends with 12 points, eight boards, three blocks and three steals.
 
The game was tight throughout the first half, as the game was tied at 10-10 near the 13 minute mark. Still tied at 28 a piece with three minutes left until halftime, a quick run capped off by a Tyler Sullivan 3-pointer gave the Green and Gold a 35-33 lead entering the locker rooms. Sullivan led all scorers with 11 points at the break coming off the bench.
 
New Paltz stayed within striking distance early on in the second half, with Brockport holding a five-point lead with 12:34 to play. The Golden Eagles turned it up a notch as they took a double-digit lead by the 10-minute mark and did not slow down. Brockport kept attacking and drawing contact, leading to a 23-for-26 effort from the foul line in the second half. The team cruised to the 29-point win, its largest margin of victory this season.
 
Brockport had five double-digit scorers in the game, as the team had 16 assists on 26 made field goals. The Green and Gold had 14 less turnovers than the visiting Hawks, and outscored the opponent 32-10 off of turnovers. The bench also outscored the reserves from New Paltz, 34-7, in the conference victory.
 
New Paltz had three players reach double figures, as Scott Reisert led the team with 17 points and nine rebounds in the contest. The Hawks are now 4-9 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
 
The Golden Eagles have a week to prepare for a matchup with Geneseo next Saturday on January 25th. The game will tip-off in Geneseo, NY at 4 pm.
