HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State opened the scoring just 1:27 into the contest as Reid Bibb (Gaithersburg/Gaithersburg) tallied his first goal of the season on a breakaway goal set up by Sam Maddox (St. Louis, MO/Lindburgh).
  • Geneseo responded with a goal of their own just under two minutes later but could not break through to claim their first lead as Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Jensen) tallied 15 first-period saves to backstop the Bengals to a 1-1 score after 20 minutes of action.
  • Buffalo State took advantage of a bench-minor penalty by the Knights, to open the second frame, as Vasjonkin netted a power-play goal, just 1:17 into the period, for his third of the season off of assists by Colin O'Connor (Kankakee, IL/Providence Catholic) and Kozyrev.
  • The Bengals extended their lead at the midway point of the second period as Zach Remers (Clarence/Clarence) scored his fourth of the season off assists from Kozyrev and Vasjonkin.
  • The Knights had multiple chances late in the second frame to chip away at the lead but were denied four times by Norrman as Buffalo State held a 3-1 lead at the final intermission.
  • Geneseo outshot the Bengals 13-7 in the third period but only could push one goal past Norrman, at the 10:22 mark, to trim the lead to 3-2.
  • The Knights pulled their goal for the final 1:20 of the contest in favor of an extra skater and failed to extend the contest as Buffalo State added an empty-netter by Kozyrev with just 17 seconds left to seal the win.
  • Norrman finished with a career-high 39 saves in net for the Bengals.
  • Buffalo State held Geneseo to 1 of 7 of power-play chances, while converting 1 of its 3 chances.
