BROCKPORT, NY – Sophomore
Kylee Rosbrook netted 24 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to help guide the SUNY Brockport women's basketball team to a convincing 72-59 victory at home against SUNY Potsdam in SUNYAC Conference play Friday night. Rosbrook's 21 rebounds ranks tied for fourth on the program's all-time single game rebounding list.
Brockport has now won two of their last three conference games and saw its record improve to 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the league. Potsdam's record fell to 5-10 overall and 3-7 in the SUNYAC.
Freshman
Serena Sordetto recorded a career-high for the second straight contest as she posted 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor.
Chelsea Henry was 2-for-2 from behind the arc as she finished the night with nine points for the Golden Eagles. Sophomore
Allison Chiera posted nine points in a key role off the bench for Brockport.
19 of Brockport's 72 total points came at the charity stripe and 10 different players scored at least two points for the home team. The Golden Eagles also recorded 20 second chance points off of 21 offensive rebounds. Rosbrook's 10 offensive rebounds matched Potsdam's entire team effort on the offensive glass. She now has three double-double's on the season.
Brockport used a 9-3 run in span of 3:16 in the first quarter to take a 15-8 lead with 2:27 to go in the first. The Bears answered with a 7-2 run to close out the first and the score stood at 17-15 in favor of the home team after one full quarter.
Brockport quickly pushed its lead to six points, 23-17, following a layup by Chiera early in the second quarter. Potsdam would not go down without a fight as the Bears answered and took a one point lead 28-27, with 4:10 to go before the halftime break. Brockport remained composed and a Rosbrook rebound on the defensive end led to a layup on the offensive end to give the Golden Eagles a 33-30 lead at the half.
With the score set at 43-42 in favor of Brockport midway through the third quarter, the Golden Eagles went on an 8-1 run to close the quarter with a 51-43 lead. Brockport pulled away in the final quarter and extended its lead to as many as 15 points, 72-57, with less than a minute to go in regulation.
Potsdam's Caroline LaFountain totaled a team-best 15 points, while Dyamon Hunter added 13 points for the visitors.
Julianna Taylor posted seven points on 3-of-6 shooting from the floor for Brockport, while
Erin Radack and
Anna Felice each chipped in with three points apiece.
Brockport returns to the hardwood on Saturday when it hosts Plattsburgh for another pivotal conference contest at 2 p.m. at Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
