CANTON, N.Y. – The Cortland men's hockey team scored three third-period goals to earn a 4-1 non-conference win at Canton Tuesday night to improve to 11-9-1 on the season. The Kangaroos dropped to 10-8-3 with the loss.
Senior
Douglas Elgstam (Stockholm, Sweden/New Jersey Rockets) led Cortland with two goals and an assist. Junior
Alex Storjohann (Phoenix, AZ/Kirkland Lake) registered one goal and one assist, and freshman
Trevor Veneklase (Brentwood, TN/Seahawks Hockey Club) added a goal. Senior
Sean Perichak (Oakville, ON/Markham Royals) collected two assists, while junior
Logan Blaser (Aurora, ON/Brockville Braves) and sophomores
Ethan Homitz (Allison Park, PA/New Hampshire Monarchs),
Shane Beaulieu (Claremont, ON/Powassan VooDoos) and
Jacob Gaydos (Sandusky, OH/Wisconsin Rapid Riverkings) each chipped in with an assist. Senior goalie
Nick Modica (Suffern/New Jersey Hitmen) registered 35 saves.
Tyson Bruce scored Canton's goal with Bailey Conklin and Sean Shepard assisting. Goalie Michael Cerasuolo made 29 saves.
Elgstam gave Cortland a 1-0 lead at 9:48 of the first period before Bruce tied the game just 32 seconds later. After a scoreless second period, Elgstam netted what proved to be the game winner at 4:21 of the third period. Storjohann made it a 3-1 score with a power-play goal at 8:41, and Veneklase completed the scoring at 9:59 for the 4-1 final.
