Storjohann Completes Comeback with OT Goal vs. #12 Wilkes

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Alex Storjohann (Phoenix, AZ/Kirkland Lake) scored 2:13 into overtime to lift the Cortland men's hockey team to a come-from-behind 6-5 victory versus nationally 12th-ranked Wilkes Tuesday night in non-conference action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons, playing their third consecutive game against a ranked opponent, improved to 6-7-1. The Colonels dropped to 11-3.

Storjohann, who also added an assist, was one of six goal scorers for Cortland. Sophomores Hayden Hart (Potsdam/Smiths Falls Bears) and Ethan Homitz (Allison Park, PA/New Hampshire Monarchs) led the Red Dragons with a goal and two assists each. Senior Sean Perichak (Oakville, ON/Markham Royals) and junior Louis DiMatteo (Nobleton, ON/Trenton Golden Hawks) tallied a goal and an assist, junior Tommy Ritchie (Spencerport/New York PAL Islanders) netted a goal, senior Connor Beck (Richmond Hill, ON/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) collected two assists and freshman Luca Esposito (Bolton, ON/Markham Royals) chipped in with one assist. Freshman goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) made 39 saves.

Sophomore Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) paced Wilkes with one goal and two assists. Sophomores Devon Schnell (Scarsdale/Connecticut Rangers) and Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI/Northern Cyclones) each tallied a goal and an assist, and junior Tyson Araujo (Oak Bluffs, MA/Boston Bandits) and sophomore Danny Reidel (Wayne, NJ/Kingston Voyageurs) netted one goal apiece. Sophomore goalie Brandon Gordon (Sault Ste. Marie, MI/Soo Thunderbirds) registered 35 saves.

The Colonels owned a 3-1 lead after the first two periods before a wild third period led to overtime. Schell's goal just 28 seconds into the final period gave Wilkes what seemed a comfortable 4-1 lead. The Red Dragons, however, pulled even at 4-4 with three goals, two on the power play, in a five-minute span. The Colonels regained the lead at 15:55, but Perichak netted the game-tying score 40 seconds before the end of regulation with a one-timer in front after the Red Dragons pulled Durante for an extra skater to send the game into overtime.

In the extra session, Beck fed a pass to Perichak who skated down the right side and put a shot on goal that Gordon stopped. The rebound popped out to the left side where Storjohann flipped the game-winner into the open goal for his second goal of the season and a Cortland win.
