WEBSTER, NY – Senior Mark Dunkelberg had a first and a second place finish in the freestyle sprints and helped the relays to a first and second place finish with strong legs as the Nazareth College men's swimming and diving team opened the 2019-20 season with a dual against Geneseo Saturday afternoon at the Webster Aquatics Center.
Geneseo won the team scoring with a 195-99 edge.
Dunkelberg helped the Nazareth (0-1) medley relay to a second place finish in the opening race of the meet as Tom Griffin, John Koch, Luca Biagiotti and Dunkelberg swam a 1:36.84. Dunkelberg's time in his freestyle leg was a 20.70.
Later in the meet, Dunkelberg was first in the 50 free with a time of 21.24 and then was second in the 100 free with a time of 48.76. He was just 2/10 of a second out of first and a mere 5/100 ahead of the third place finisher in the close finish.
The Golden Flyers capped the meet with a first place finish in the 200 free relay as Griffin, Dunkelberg, Sean Payrot and Matt Corona clocked a 1:25.62 and Dunkelberg had another impressive leg with a 20.44 for the fastest leg in the relay.
Griffin added a first place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54;13 and Koch was first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:59.75. Corona was second in the 200 free (1:48.16) and freshman Dylan Long took third in the 1000 free with a 10:31.23.
Junior Sidney Taylor was second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with a 244.45 n the 1-meter and a 268.80 on the 3-meter board with teammate Cameron Kenealy was third on both boards with scores of 207.50 and 228.65 respectively.
The Golden Flyers return to action next weekend at the Cortland Relays.
