Huge Second Half Pushes Brockport Past Alfred

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport men's basketball team improved to 7-2 overall on Friday night with an 87-64 win over Alfred at home. After trailing by nine at halftime, Brockport outscored the Saxons, 53-21, in the second half.
 
Devante Hagins was all over the court in his first start of the season. He finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals, and three blocks. Jahidi Wallace shot 10-for-10 from the free throw line on his way to a game-high 17 points.
 
A total of five players reached double-figures in the contest for the Golden Eagles. Tyree Grimsley scored 12 points, shooting 5-for-5 from the floor. Justin Summers and Antonio Alvarez both added 11 points each.
 
The Green and Gold took an early lead, going up 11-0 in the first three minutes. Alfred would get back into the game with a run of its own. The Saxons tied the game up at 23-23, with 7:19 left until halftime. Alfred would go on to lead by as much as 12 before entering the locker room with a 43-34 edge over Brockport.
 
The Golden Eagles turned it up a notch to start the second half with a big run, as they jumped out to a 63-45 lead by the 12-minute mark. The team gave up just two points in the first eight minutes of the second half, and didn't look back. Brockport kept the pressure on for the remainder of the contest, closing out the game strong to secure the 23-point victory.
 
Brockport outscored Alfred 44-20 in the paint and had 11 more points off of turnovers. The team had 10 blocks in the game and shot 49.1% from the field, while holding Alfred to 30.5% shooting.
 
Alfred's leading scorer was Sam Dagon who had 15 points and shot 10-for-10 from the foul line. The Saxons are now 5-5 overall on the season.
 
The Golden Eagles are back in action on January 10th for an away game against Potsdam. This SUNYAC contest is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 pm.
