Fronczak Wins Three Events, Freshmen Shine Against Oswego

Potsdam, NY – Sophomore Paige Fronczak won all three of her freestyle starts and freshmen Paul Braun and Colin Slupe each picked up a pair of wins in their individual races as the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team split a dual meet against Oswego State on Saturday afternoon at Fuller Pool.

The Golden Knights' men won 171-112 while the women dropped their decision 163.5-133.5. Clarkson will finish off its streak of four dual meets next Saturday when the team travels to Vermont to take on St. Michael's College.

First-year collegian Collin Slupe won the opening individual men's event, claiming first in the 800 freestyle by 2.92 second with a time of 9 minutes, 11.36 seconds. He also won the 400 freestyle later on in the day in 4:23.81, winning by 1.99 seconds. Classmate Paul Braun won his 200 freestyle race in 2:03.14, a margin of 2.53 seconds, and picked up a win in the 200 individual medley in 2:20.87, a cushion of 4.56 seconds. Jack Kelly, another freshman, also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.90.

Joining the trio of freshmen in the winning column were seniors Jacob Baker, Benjamin Thibert, Johnny Magnuson, and Brent Reid. Baker won both the 200 butterfly (2:18.54) and 200 backstroke (2:19.48), Reid took first-place points in both the 3-meter dive (249.10) and 1-meter dive (235.75), Thibert gained the victory in the 100 backstroke (1:02.42) and Magnuson took top honors in the 200 breaststroke (2:37.11). Clarkson's 200 medley relay squad of Thibert, Kelly, Magnuson, and Sean Landers combined for the win in that event with a time of 1:52.58.

Fronczak was the big winner for the Knights' women, taking first in the 50 freestyle (28.60), 100 freestyle (1:03.45) and 200 freestyle (2:17.91). Freshman Payton Wolcott won both of her distance freestyle races, taking first in the 400 freestyle (4:59.81) and 800 freestyle (10:20.89). Sophomore Taylor Lee won the 100 breaststroke (1:19.77), classmate Brooke Peters hit the pads first in the 200 breaststroke (2:58.56), and Amelia Kanner, another second-year student-athlete, won the 200 individual medley (2:38.10). The 400 freestyle relay combination of Lee, Wolcott, Peters and Fronczak also finished off their day with a win, finishing the event in 4:19.23.
