HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Nor'Easters struck first via the power play at 3:25 of the opening period on Ryan Bloom's seventh goal of the season.
- Oswego looked to even the score when Derek Brown swung a pass in front to Tanner Spink, but a great save by UNE's Ben Churchfield with 8:00 minutes left in the stanza kept the visitors on top.
- A few seconds later Chris MacMillan got tripped heading into the offensive zone to give the Lakers their first power play.
- During the man-up try, Carson Vance swung a pass out wide to Anthony Passero who one-touched a pass back into the slot for a rocket from Broughman that went over the right shoulder and into the goal to tie the score.
- Passero looked to give Oswego the lead late in the period when he took a two-line pass to get behind the Nor'Easter defense for a one-on-one with Churchfield, but a glove save stymied the shot.
- Oswego led 22-16 in shots after first period and 20-5 in won faceoffs.
- In the second period, Oswego had four power plays, including a minute left over from the first period, but could not capitalize.
- Late in the period, UNE's Tyler Seltenreich deflected a centering pass into the Laker net with just 1:21 left in the period.
- Coming out of the second intermission, the Nor'Easters scored within the first minute of the third period on a pass out front from behind and a quick flip into the upper corner of the goal.
- Three minutes later, Spink circled out towards the middle from the sideboards in the offensive zone and flipped a wrister past the goalie to cut the lead back to one goal.
- Brown and Mitch Emerson were credited with assists on the Spink goal.
- Eight minutes into third period action, UNE broke out of the neutral zone with a 3-on-1 advantage and swung a pass out to the left for a quick one-timer to push their lead back to 4-2.
- With just under three minutes left in the contest, Broughman took a pass from nearly the same spot as his first goal and slammed home his second goal to give the Lakers a chance.
- Senior Michael Gillespie and sophomore Tyler Antonucci assisted on Broughman's tally.
- The Lakers pulled senior David Richer in the final two minutes and had chances from Broughman, Tyson Kirkby and Passero but could not get the equalizer.
- Oswego held a 42-22 edge in shots-on-goal and ended with a 44-19 edge in won faceoffs.
- Richer finished with 18 saves in the contest.
- The only unranked team in the field, Saint Mary's University (Minn.), won the tournament title with a 4-2 victory over #14 Williams.
