ONEONTA, NY – Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) set two Moyer Pool records and the Hartwick men's swimming and diving team won every race as they defeated cross-street rival SUNY Oneonta in Moyer Pool on Saturday afternoon, 195-99. The win is a bounce back after last week's loss at Nazareth, as the Hawks move to 6-1.
Chernyak's records were set in both of the day's breaststroke events. He won the 100 breast in 57.66 seconds, and came back a little later for the 200 breast victory in 2:06.20. Chernyak was followed by Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) in both events (100.05 in the 100 breast, 2:17.50 in the 200 breast). Chernyak also was the winner of the 400 IM, touching up in 4:20.37. There, teammates Kenneth Lok (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and Colin Leonard (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem) were right behind him, in 4:33.79 and 4:39.43, respectively.
Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) tied Chernyak's output with three of his own individual wins. He won the 200 free with a time of 1:48.89, and later claimed both the 100 and 200 fly events with times of 54.44 seconds and 2:01.88, respectively. Next up for the Hawks was Diallo Marshall (Saint George, Antigua & Barbuda/St. Anthony's), who finished first in both sprint freestyle events. He swam the 50 in 21.85 seconds and the 100 in 48.38 seconds.
Brennan Walsh (Westerville, OH/New Albany Plains) was the last multiple-race winner for the Hawks, coming out victorious in both the 100 back (57.00 seconds) and the 200 back (2:06.13). Nic Canney (Chandler, AZ/Corona Del Sol) (10:22.24 in the 1000 free) and Javonte Herbert (Houston, TX/Cy Springs) (5:01.71 in the 500 free) had 'Wick's other two individual wins.
A team of Walsh, Chernyak, Tupponce, and Marshall won the 400 medley relay, with a time of 3:38.22. Marshall, Reid Sinkinson (Telford, PA/Souderton Area), Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), and McLoughlin teamed up for the win in the other relay, the 400 free, winning in 3:19.11.
The Hawks are right back in Moyer Pool next Saturday, when they host Bard for a 1 p.m. meet.
