PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Junior
Jazz Roberts raced to a first-place finish to help Plattsburgh State women's cross country to a second-place team finish at the Cardinal Classic on Saturday at Rugar Woods.
Roberts (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) finished the 5,000-meter course with a time of 19:29.8 – about eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher (Ashley Walker, St. Lawrence, 19:37.5).
Plattsburgh State's next finisher was sophomore
Rebecca Block (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), who placed seventh with a time of 20:53.9.
Sophomores
Mikayla Anderson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) and
Aislyn McDonough (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) placed 14th and 15th, respectively. Anderson crossed the line in 22:01.7, while McDonough finished with a personal-best time of 22:20.1.
Plattsburgh State's top five was rounded out by senior
Mikayla Barrett (Rotterdam, N.Y./Schalmont), who completed the race in 23:32.7 to finish 19th.
Also competing for the Cardinals were: freshmen
Kelsy Hastings (20th place, 23:40.8),
Madison Myer (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) (25th, 25:58.5) and
Ashlyn Hatzis (31st, 29:38.5).
Plattsburgh State recorded 46 points to place second out of three teams. St. Lawrence finished first with 20 points and Castleton came in third place with 70 points.
The Cardinals host the Plattsburgh State Cross Country Invite on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Rugar Woods.
