Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Goals Galore in Third Period as Lakers Win

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The No. 5 Oswego State men's ice hockey team turned a close 2-1 game into an 8-1 rout of SUNY Potsdam with a massive six-goal third period on Saturday evening at the Marano Campus Center Arena.  

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lakers were in control after scoring two goals in the opening period of play.
  • Carson Vance scored his first goal of the season halfway through the first on assists from Anthony Passero and Travis Broughman.
  • At 17:10, Colton Fletcher notched his second goal of the season on assists from Broughman and defenseman Max Novick.
  • The score remained the same until late in the second when Potsdam took a shot from right of the goal while on the power play that Cedric Hansen saved.
  • The rebound dribbled out front through some traffic and was shot in to cut the lead to one after two periods.
  • A motivated Laker team emerged from the dressing room for the third and scored immediately as Mitch Emerson sent the opening faceoff to Jeff Solow who entered the Potsdam zone and short-hopped the puck past the goaltender just 11 seconds into action.
  • At 3:39, Joseph Molinaro skated into the middle of the Bears' zone, kicked a pass out wide to Passero for a shot on goal that senior Jody Sullivan redirected into goal for a 4-1 lead.
  • It was the special teams' turn to get involved on the next goal for the Lakers as the penalty kill unit grabbed possession and outletted to Josh Zizek.
  • Zizek rushed up the middle and kicked a pass out right to junior Tanner Spink.  Spink launched a low shot under Potsdam's Michael Paglucca.
  • The Lakers scored a flurry of goals in the last five minutes when Molinaro got in behind the defense and rifled a shot through the five-hole at 15:56.
  • His goal was assisted by Josh LeBlanc and Charlie Pelnik.
  • Less than a minute later, Carter Allen fed Broughman for a charge down the middle and shot on goal.  The rebound deflected right onto Broughman's stick for the put back.
  • Just 30 seconds later, Broughman gathered the puck in the Potsdam zone with his back to goal, turned and fired a shot through his defender and into goal to chase Paglucca and conclude scoring.
  • Hansen made 20 saves in the contest to earn the win.
  • Broughman scored four points on two goals and two assists and Passero had three on three assists.
  • Potsdam ended 1-for-8 on the power play and Oswego was 0-for-3.
  • Oswego outshot Potsdam 41-21 on the night.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers continue their home stand with a 7 p.m. game next Friday against Brockport that will feature the Toys for Tots teddy bear toss.
