Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Conklin Joins 200 Point Club in Battle Against #18 Ithaca

BROCKPORT, NY – The nationally-ranked No. 20 SUNY Brockport women's lacrosse team rallied in the second half, cutting their deficit to as few as two goals with 12:03 to go, but the rally proved to be too late as No. 18 Ithaca came away with a 14-10 victory in non-conference action at Bob Boozer Field on Saturday.  Brockport's Heather Conklin registered a team-high four points (three goals, one assist) and became just the sixth player in program-history to record 200+ career points.

Brockport's record fell to 1-1 on the season, while Ithaca improved to 4-0 overall following the battle of nationally-ranked opponents.

Brockport jumped out to an early 3-2 lead in the contest behind goals from Erin Wegrzyn, Heather Conklin and Chloe Kurst in the first 8:24 of the contest.

Ithaca answered with seven of the game's next eight goals and eventually took a 9-5 lead into the half.  Wegrzyn and Courtney Cunningham each posted a goal for Brockport in the final 3:24 of the first half of play to make it a four goal contest at the intermission.

Ithaca scored two of the first three second half goals to set the score at 11-6 before Brockport began to rally.  Allison Jennings netted two straight goals for Brockport midway through the second half to make the score 11-8 in favor of the visiting Bombers.

Ithaca's Jacqui Hallack – who finished the day with a game-high seven goals and one assist – scored at 14:35 to push Ithaca's lead back to four goals (12-8) with 14:35 to go before Brockport made one final push.

Heather Conklin and Cassidy Burnash netted back-to-back goals for the Golden Eagles in a span 1:42 to make the score 12-10 with 12:03 left in regulation.

Brockport's comeback bid proved to be too late as Ithaca's Katie Welch and Hallack closed out the scoring on the day with consecutive tallies to hand the Bombers a four goal victory.

The goal for Burnash was the first of her career in the green and gold and she finished the day with one goal and one assist for Brockport. Lyndsie Pratt totaled a team-high six ground balls for the Golden Eagles and she also added six draw controls. Conklin also chipped in with six draw controls and four ground balls.

Brockport's Morgan Elmer stopped 11 shots in net for the Golden Eagles, while Mackenzie Schade stopped 12 shots to pick up her fourth win of the season for the Bombers.

Brockport will now hit the road for six straight games, beginning with a trip to Clarkson University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
