Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Lakers Jump Over 'Roos In Dominating Fashion

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State men's ice hockey team defeated the Canton Kangaroos with a final score of 8-2 on Saturday night in the Marano Campus Center Arena. Steven Kozikoski earned his first collegiate win as he finished the game with 19 saves and Tyler Antonucci scored his first career goal in the third period.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Oswego 8 | Canton 2
  • Location:  Marano Campus Center Arena - Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records:  Oswego 9-8 | Canton 9-5-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lakers were in control of this one early on with four first-period goals, including their first three in the span of two minutes and four seconds.
  • Senior Anthony Passero netted Oswego's first goal at 6:09, his fifth of the season. The goal was assisted by freshman Alex DiCarlo and junior Tanner Spink.
  • DiCarlo scored the second via the power play and then Spink ended up getting the eventual game-winner on a shorthanded opportunity at 8:13.
  • Senior Michael Gillespie and junior Max Novick grabbed the assists on DiCarlo's goal while Spink's was unassisted.
  • Carson Vance added insult to injury at 18:33 of the period to take the Lakers lead to four goals. Passero and Travis Broughman picked up assists on Vance's goal.
  • The second period was very much the same story for the Lakers as Michael Gillespie continued the onslaught of goals by burying one just 58 seconds into the second period.
  • He then assisted on the next two, one by Josh Zizek and one from Broughman late in the period.  Novick and DiCarlo added to their point totals with assists on those scores.
  • Antonucci concluded the scoring with a tap-in goal on the back side of the goalie on a nice feed from Spink after Canton had cut into the Laker lead with a pair of goals.
  • DiCarlo finished the game with a career-high four points (1G, 3A) and Gillespie finished with the same line (1G, 3A).
  • Broughman now has six points in the past three games for the Lakers, good enough to put him first on the team and fourth in goals in the conference rankings.
