Late run lifts Men’s Basketball past New Paltz, 79-70

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Kay Grant (Jamaica/Thomas Jefferson) posted his 13th-career double-double with a game-high 29 points and 15 rebounds, while Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) added 23 points as Buffalo State closed the contest on a 18-6 run en route to a 79-70 win in SUNYAC action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Grant finished 10 of 19 from the floor and 9 of 11 from the charity stripe to go along with a game-high nine offensive rebounds.
  • Adams shot 3 of 7 from distance and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.
  • Aaron Davis (Beacon/Beacon) chipped in 12 points and eight assists, while Jordan Christopher (Bronx/Mott Haven Campus) added seven points and seven rebounds.
  • Buffalo State and New Paltz matched each other point-for-point in the first half, until the Bengals closed the stanza with a pair of 3-pointers by Adams, including a buzzer-beater from beyond half court, to claim a 36-30 halftime lead.
  • After Buffalo State pushed the lead to 49-36 on a fast-break dunk by Adams with 15:57 left to play, the Hawks scored 25 points in a seven minutes span to even the score at 61-61 with eight minutes left to play.
  • New Paltz connected on a three-point field goal with 6:30 left to claim a 64-61 lead but failed to shift momentum as Buffalo State closed the contest on an 18-6 run to clinch the conference win.
  • The Bengals shot 42 percent from the floor and held the Hawks to only 37 percent shooting.
  • New Paltz held a 16-8 edge in bench points, while Buffalo State finished with a 38-26 advantage in points in the paint.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Tristan Wissemann paced the Hawks with 21 points and team-high eight rebounds.
  • Jake Passaretti chipped in 18 points and seven assists, while Scott Reisert added 12 points and three blocks.
