Brockport strikes early, tops Women’s Soccer, 4-1

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Brockport capitalized on a fast start and defeated host Buffalo State, 4-1, in SUNYAC action this afternoon on Coyer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mya Sugg (Depew/Depew) notched her first-career goal off an assist from Kyndal Hetzel (Hilton/Hilton) in the 22nd minute.
  • Brockport jumped out to an early lead as it opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute.
  • The Bengals responded with a goal of their own just 17 minutes later as Hetzel's free kick bounced off the Golden Eagles' goalkeeper directly to the foot of Sugg, who buried the rebound shot into the top-left corner.
  • Brockport reclaimed the lead with a goal in the 36th minutes to take a 2-1 halftime lead.
  • Buffalo State applied offensive pressure in the opening minutes of the second half with three shot attempts in the first 10 minutes but failed to even the score.
  • The Golden Eagles added two insurance markers in the 60th and 67th minutes to complete the SUNYAC victory.
  • Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) and Isabella Vene (Deer Park/Deer Park) combined to make two saves for the Bengals.  
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Camryn Pettit scored twice to lead Brockport, while Franchesca Polcaro and Kiley Longin each added a goal apiece.
