SUNYAC set to host NCAA DIII New York Baseball Regional

CORTLAND, N.Y.- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) will be hosting the 2017 NCAA Division III New York baseball regional at the Onondaga Baseball Complex on the campus of Onondaga Community College. The six-team double elimination tournament will include Oswego, Southern Maine, The College of New Jersey, Tufts, Castleton and Ithaca and will run from May 18-21.

Oswego, this year's SUNYAC regular season and de facto conference tournament champion, comes into the tournament with an overall record of 28-8.  In the regular season, the Lakers were able to defeat fellow regional foe Ithaca 6-3. The two teams will face each other in the first game of the regional tournament on Thursday, May 18.

Over the past two years, Cortland has hosted the regional at Falcon Park in Auburn, NY, home of the Auburn Doubledays. In 2014, the tournament was hosted by Ithaca at Colburn Park in Newark, NY. Cortland has had recent success in the tournament, winning four out of the last five regional competitions. The Red Dragons earned an at-large berth into the tournament and will be the second seed at the eight-team Mideast Regional at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pa.

The New York regional is the initial round of NCAA playoffs. The winner of the regional advances to the College World Series at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin. The World Series runs from May 26-31 and will feature eight of the top teams from across the country.
