SHENANDOAH, TEXAS - As the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped up this past Saturday, the State Univesity of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) proudly recognizes the recent success of its student-athletes.
The championships were held March 15-18 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas. The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the City of Shenandoah served as hosts. A total of 527 participants (479 swimmers and 48 divers) competed in the championships.
SUNYAC WOMEN:
Fredonia's Meghan Bartlett took home a pair of top finishes at this year's NCAA Championships; placing third in the 3-meter dive (481.05) and fourth in the 1-meter dive (432.05). This was Bartlett's second consecutive third place finish in the 3-meter at the national competition. Bartlett ends her impressive diving career earning an astonishing six All-America honors throughout her three years with the Blue Devils.
Geneseo's Claudia Kolakowski came away with top-16 finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. She finished in 13th in the 1-meter and earned a 16th place finish in the 3-meter, earning two Honorable Mention All-American honors.
Geneseo's Nancy Nasky earned Honorable Mention All-American honors in the women's 1650 freestyle, placing ninth overall (17:04.51). Nasky's performance in the 1650 free was a program and SUNYAC Record.
SUNYAC MEN:
Buffalo State's Connor Mergler earned All-American honors after finishing eighth in the men's 100 freestyle. This is Mergler's second All-American honor in the 100 free and third overall. The junior swimmer also competed in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle, placing 20th in both events
On the spring-boards, Geneseo's Samuel Randall and Fredonia's Arron Carlson both respectively earned a pair of All-American honors at the 2017 NCAA Championships. In the men's 1-meter dive, Randall took home second place (511.50) and Carlson would round out the top four (492.90). In the men's 3-meter dive, Carlson locked up third place with a combined score of 547.35; Randall placed seventh with 506.25. Brockport's Gabe Arias would also receive two Honorable Mention All-American honors, finishing 14th (425.00) in the men's 1-meter and 16th (431.00) in the men's 3-meter.
