A Day in the Life of Jess Levinson

A Day in the Life of Jess Levinson

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) presents A Day in the Life of New Paltz's women's soccer senior Jess Levinson. Last season Levinson played in eight games logging 116 minutes of action for the Hawks. She also earned a spot on the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll as a psychology major (minor in disaster studies).

What time do you typically wake up?

I typically wake up between 9:30 and 10 a.m. everyday. I definitely enjoy sleeping in as much as I can, but also don't mind waking up and getting things done early in the day either.

What is one thing that you do (nearly) every day that keeps you on track for competition?

One thing that I do every day that keeps me on track for competition is incorporate some type of workout into my daily routine. Whether it's running, biking, or yoga, it's important for me to get my body moving everyday as best as I can.

What motivates you (to be the best in your sport)?

There are two things that I typically find motivate me to be better each and every day. The first one is my love for the sport. I love that slight rush of nerves I get before I step out on the field. I love the feeling of sore muscles, even if it seems like I can't walk for two days straight. Most importantly though, I love the feeling of being a part of something bigger than myself. I love sharing a common goal with my teammates and being able to go through the ups and downs with people by my side. Each day that I step on the field, I try my best to play for that passion I've had since I was four years old and give it everything I have to improve a little bit every single day. Even though it gets tough every once in a while, I know that I wouldn't be the person I am today without this game. The second thing that motivates me is my family. They have been in my corner since day one and I know that no matter where I go in life, my family will always have my back. They keep me going on my good days, bad days, and everything in between. Words can't even describe how thankful I am for my family.

How do you stay connected with your teammates?

I stay connected with my teammates by trying to see them outside of practices and games. Whether it's going on hikes to all the beautiful places in New Paltz or going to grab a bite to eat. I really enjoy spending time and getting to know my teammates outside of the soccer field.

What is your top lunch choice?

I usually have a hard time deciding between a sandwich or a salad for lunch so a lot of times I find myself eating a smaller salad and having half of a sandwich with it. Turkey sandwiches are my go-to and chipotle mayo is a MUST.

What time is practice?

Practice is usually at 7 a.m., but sometimes we have it in the afternoons.

What class are you looking forward to or/enjoy most this semester?

I'm really looking forward to my Psychology of Infancy and Childhood class this semester. I want to work with kids in some capacity when I grow up so I know that this class will be very interesting and help me gain knowledge that can assist me in my future.

What helps you stay focused each day?

One thing that helps me stay focused is getting a good night's sleep. If I don't sleep well or am rolling around all night I typically find that I struggle with completing tasks the next day. But when I sleep well, I'm much more motivated and productive.

Favorite late night snack?

This is a tough one. I really enjoy any type of chips (specifically Doritos or barbecue though) but I also really like having an apple with peanut butter.

How many hours a night do you typically sleep?

I probably get around 7-10 hours of sleep every night.
