Geneseo Wins 2016 SUNYAC Tennis Title

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Geneseo captures the 2016 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tennis championship with a 5-1 win over New Paltz, Monday at the Binghamton Tennis Center. This is the sixth-straight and 10th overall SUNYAC title for the Knights.

Geneseo took the 3-0 early lead after doubles play, but New Paltz didn't make it easy with an 8-5 and 8-6 battle at the first and third flights respectively. Second doubles team of Vanessa Lam-Tran and Sienna Susko won their match 8-3 and were named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team along with their teammates Anika Pornpitaksuk and Lauren Salzano at first doubles and Nina Lurie and Rachel Ollis at third doubles. All three doubles teams were undefeated (3-0) in the tournament.

New Paltz's Olivia Ammirati earned her team's first point of the match winning first singles, 6-1, 6-4, and was named to the All-Tournament team. Geneseo's Lurie and Ollis won their singles matches at fifth and sixth singles to secure the team win. They were also named to the All-Tournament team for singles.

Geneseo's Lam-Tran was named the SUNYAC Tournament MVP after finishing the championship 3-0 at second doubles and 2-0 at fourth singles.
