BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - After semifinal wins on Saturday, New Paltz and Oneonta will play for the 2018 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's tennis crown, Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
The top-seeded Hawks defeated third-seeded Fredonia, 5-0, in the first semifinal Saturday. New Paltz took a 3-0 lead after doubles wins from Trinity Chow/Laura Koob (8-1), Victoria Zezula/Lindsay Haley (8-3) and Courtney Koran/Emma Messenger (8-2). Koran and Haley continued with shutouts in their singles matches to give the Hawks their final two points for the team win. Box Score
The second-seeded Oneonta defeated fourth-seeded Geneseo, 5-1, Saturday night. The Red Dragons had the lead, 3-0, going into singles play with wins from all three doubles teams, Alyssa Brault/Julieta Eulau (8-5), Mya Lipscomb/Olivia Fraser (8-4) and Alexandra Dratch/Madeline Carswell (8-5). Eulau and Lipscomb won their singles matches to take the next two points to win the match. Box Score
The conference recognized Oneonta senior Alyssa Brault as its 2018 SUNYAC women's tennis Elite 20 winner. The SUNYAC Elite 20, is an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program. It recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in their sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among their peers. Brault, from Rochester, N.Y., is majoring in mass communications/production concentration and holds a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average. Video
