2018 SUNYAC women's tennis annual awards

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's tennis coaches have voted on the 2018 women's tennis top awards. The awards include Rookie of the Year, Doubles Team of the Year, the Peter J. Cahill MVP, Coach of the Year, and the All-Conference teams.


Peter J. Cahill Most Valuable Player: Trinity Chow, New Paltz

Trinity Chow (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) completed the 2018 season with an undefeated No.1 singles record of 6-0, with all six of those wins coming against SUNYAC opponents. In No.1 doubles she finished the season at 8-1 overall, and 6-1 in SUNYAC play. For the season Chow's record is a stellar 14-1.

 

 

 

 


Rookie of the Year: Laura Koob, New Paltz

Laura Koob (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) finished the season with an impressive 19-1 record for the Hawks. She went 7-0 in No. 2 singles and 8-0 in No. 1 doubles. Koob was a big part of New Paltz' SUNYAC championship run, going 6-0 in SUNYAC No.2 singles and 6-1 in SUNYAC No.1 doubles during the season. In the SUNYAC championship match against Oneonta, she defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1 to earn one of the final team points needed for the win.

 

 

 


Doubles Team of the Year: Trinity Chow/Laura Koob, New Paltz

The New Paltz freshman duo finished the season with an 8-1 record in No. 1 doubles. Against SUNYAC opponents they went 6-1. They were also named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team for their dominant play during the championships, winning both No.1 doubles matches convincingly, 8-1 and 8-3.

 

  

 

 


Coach of the Year: Rob Bruley, New Paltz

Rob Bruley has been the head coach of the New Paltz women's tennis program since 1998 and has brought the program success every season. Under Bruley the Hawks have now finished first or second in the SUNYAC championships for 17 consecutive years. This season's SUNYAC championship is Bruley's fifth title with New Paltz, and the programs fifth title overall, he also won it in 2002, 2006, 2007, and 2010. Bruley has been awarded Coach of the Year four previous times, receiving the recognition in 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2010. In the 21 seasons that Bruley has coached, New Paltz has had seven student-athletes named the Peter J. Cahill MVP, including this seasons recipient, Trinity Chow.
