SUNYAC ANNOUNCES 2020 WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD YEARLY AWARDS

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced the 2019-20 Women's Indoor Track & Field Track Athlete, Field Athlete, and Coaching Staff of the Year awards as voted on by the conference coaches.

Track Athlete of the Year: Genny Corcoran, Geneseo

Geneseo's Genny Corcoran from Syracuse, N.Y. has been garnered with the Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the year. During the SUNYAC Championships, the senior crossed first in the 5000 meter with a time of 18:33.08. Corcoran also finished first in the mile with a time of 5:13.74. These efforts earned her All-Conference first team. Corcoran was a three-event All-Region selection as she finished with a top-10 time in the nation in both the 3000 and 5000. Corcoran also was apart of the distance medley relay team that was the second fastest time in the Atlantic Region. The time she posted for the 5000 earned her a spot at nationals.

 

  

 

Field Athlete of the Year: Emily Lavarnway, Geneseo

Geneseo's Emily Lavarnway from Ovid, N.Y. has been chosen as this years Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year,. At the SUNYAC Championship meet, the junior won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95. Lavarnway also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.57 meters and fourth in the shot put with a throw of 12.09 meters. These efforts earned her All-Conference first team. The Knight's 4x400 relay team that Lavarnway was apart of ranked second in the region and sixth in the nation. Lavarnway received All-Region honors in three other events that include the long jump, 60 meter hurdles and the pentathlon respectively. These efforts earned her a ticket to nationals in the 4x400m and the pentathlon.

 

  

Rookie of the Year: Rachel Hirschkind , Geneseo

The Monroe, N.Y. native Rachel Hirschkind has been chosen as the Rookie of the Year. The Geneseo Knight had an impressive showing at her first SUNYAC championship where she placed second in the 3000 meter with a time of 10:28.24. This earned the freshman All-Conference second team. 

Coaching Staff of the Year: Geneseo

Geneseo has been honored with the coaching staff of the year. Chris Popovici, the head coach, and assistant coaches Dan Moore, Matt JorgensenCamille WutzNick D'Amuro and Alex Curran led the Knights to a first place finish in the 2020 SUNYAC indoor track and field championships. Geneseo women's track and field finished their 2020 season with 10 different athletes on the All-Conference first team, 10 All-Atlantic Region team members, and seven national qualifiers.
