Brockport Volleyball Falls To Emory In Round Of Sixteen

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Golden Eagle volleyball season came to a close in the round of sixteen on Sunday with a 3-0 loss to #5 Emory University. The team ends its season with a record of 34-4, matching their win total from a year ago.

Senior Sam Holdredge and sophomore Jamie Schlesinger were each named to the Regional All-Tournament team.

The Golden Eagles came out strong in the opening set, opening up an 8-2 lead that forced an Emory timeout. Emory was able to fight back however when they went on a nine-point run midway through the set to take a 19-16 lead that they would never relinquish. A late three point run by Brockport got them to within two, but Emory was able to take the opening set 25-22 after Maddy Arles and Sydney Leimbach combined for one of the teams eleven blocks on the day.

Emory was able to control the final two sets, each time using a combination of tough serving and blocking to keep the Golden Eagles out of system. A bright spot for Brockport came in the final set when Karly Oliver came off the bench and provided a spark for the team, killing a career-high five balls.

Holdredge had an outstanding performance in her final collegiate game, killing a team-high ten balls while hitting at a .308 clip and adding ten digs. She ends the season as the team leader in the kills department with 353. Brianna Richardson was second in that category both in this game and the season, adding eight to her 297 total.

Leading the way defensively in this contest was Kathleen Irwin who dug 11 Emory attacks. Noelle Poloncarz and Maddy Taylor had eight digs apiece, and each contributed a service ace as well. Poloncarz added another 35 assists to her yearly total of 1,250, besting last seasons total by nearly 200.

The future is bright for the Golden Eagle volleyball team, as they'll return 16 of the 17 players from this seasons Sweet 16 run. They'll look for the "three-peat" in the SUNYAC conference, and to find themselves in the NCAA tournament once again.
