SUNYAC announces men's cross country postseason awards

CORTLAND, NY - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces the 2016 Men's Cross Country awards including Runner of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and the Coach of the Year, all voted on by conference coaches. 

Isaac Garcia-Cassani

Runner of the Year: Isaac Garcia-Cassani, Holbrook/Sachem North, Geneseo

Junior Isaac Garcia-Cassani has been named the Runner of the Year for the conference. This season, Garcia-Cassani led Geneseo to their third consecutive SUNYAC title and his second individual title. After the SUNYAC championships, he led Geneseo to an Athlantic Regional championship with his first place finish. In his last race of the year in the NCAA championships, Garcia-Cassani finished fourth overall earning All-America honors and helping his team finish as the National Runner ups. 

Sean McAneny

Rookie of the Year: Sean McAneny, Greenville/Greenville, Geneseo

Sean McAneny has been voted on by the conference coaches as the Rookie of the Year. McAneny was the first freshman to cross the finish line by just one second as he finished 19th overall at the SUNYAC championship meet. In the Atlantic Regional Championship, he was the fifth freshman to finish and the 64th place runner contributing to Geneseo's first place finish. 

 

 


Dan Moore

Coach of the Year: Dan Moore, Geneseo

Geneseo's Coach Dan Moore has been voted on as the Coach of the Year. Moore, coming off of an outstanding 2016 season in both men's and women's competition, wins his second SUNYAC coach of the year award in his first two years of coaching the Knights. Coach Moore guided both his men and women to a SUNYAC championship and NCAA Atlantic Regional Title this season.  The Regional wins were capped by Moore being named the NCAA Atlantic Regional Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.  His teams were consistently ranked in the top-5 nationally, with both teams reaching No. 1 during the fall. At the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Moore's men's team placed second overall and his women's team placed third.
