Bats Silenced By Oswego

The Alfred State baseball team was held to just five hits and fell in both games of a doubleheader at Oswego on Thursday. The Lakers took the opener 6-3 and the nightcap 8-0.

In the opener, the Lakers scored two in the 1st, one in the 2nd, and two more in the 3rd to jump out to a 5-0 lead. They added an insurance run in the 8th before the Pioneers tried to mount a rally in the 9th. In the 9th, Nick Serce (Irondequoit) led the inning with a walk and pinch runner Gavin Moore (Hilton) scored two batters later following an Oswego error. Amaury Samalot (Churchville Chili) scored when Jesse Kabat (Seneca Falls/Mynderse) hit a RBI groundout. Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ) made it 6-3 with a RBI double down the left field line but the Pioneers wouldn't get any closer.

Burdett had the lone extra base hit in the game while Serce and Samalot collected singles. Chris Baldwin (Patchogue- Medford) was good out of the bullpen. He allowed just one hit and one walk in 2.1 innings of work.

Three runs in the 1st and four in the 4th gave the Lakers the early lead in game two. They added a single run in the 5th capped the scoring. Five Oswego pitchers combined on the two-hitter. They walked four and struck out five in the contest.

Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) and Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) collected the only hits in the game. Both came in the 2nd inning.

The Pioneers (7-11, 2-0 AMCC) are back in action on Saturday when they host Pitt-Bradford in a 1 p.m. AMCC doubleheader.
