SB: Softball Ends Trip With Split

Auburndale, FL - The Lasell Lasers Softball team split the final two games of their Spring Break trip in Florida, beating Oswego 12-4 and falling to Wesleyan 4-3. The Lasers are now 5-5 on the season.

Game One vs Oswego

After Oswego scored twice in the first, the Lasers cut the lead in half on an Eryn Sheeley homer. They would then tie things up in the third on a Katie Hopkins RBI single. After the Lakers scored two more in the fourth, the Lasers responded with five in the fifth. After the first two hitters reached base, Mackenzie Still doubled home a run. The next run scored on a sacrifice fly, tying things up at four. Abigail Fortin had an RBI single to take the lead, which was followed up by a two RBI double by Alyssa Bland. The Lasers then expanded their lead even further in the sixth, scoring five runs again. The first three came on a Katie Hopkins homer, while the other two came on a walk off double by Ally Kirck, as the 12-4 score enforced the mercy rule.

The Lasers had 13 hits in the game, led by Eryn Sheeley and Emily Mesta, who each had three. Collecting two hits was Brianna Gendreau and Abigail Fortin. Katie Hopkins led the team with five RBI. On the mound, Fortin went the distance, allowing eight hits and four earned runs. She struck out three while walking four.

Game Two vs Wesleyan

Wesleyan got out to the early lead by scoring three runs in the first. They then increased their lead to 4-0 in the third. The Lasers offense was quiet up until the sixth, having only one hit up to that point. They started to put things together in the sixth, scoring on a sacrifice fly, and an Angelena Piers RBI single. The Lasers got even closer in the seventh, as an Eryn Sheeley RBI double made it 4-3, and put the tying run on third. But the Lasers would be unable to push that run across.

The Lasers collected seven hits in the game, with just Katie Hopkins having multiple hits. Eryn Sheeley pitched the entire game for the Lasers, allowing six hits and four runs, with only two of them earned. She struck out seven while walking just two.

Up Next - The Lasers will return home, and host their home opener on Tuesday, March 21st when they take on Worcester State at 3pm for a doubleheader.
