
New Paltz, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team made its way north to Ulster County for a Saturday afternoon non-conference tilt with SUNY New Paltz in a clash of NCAA Division II vs. Division III squads.
While most of the Empire state was treated to summer-like temperatures, the Spartans battled through high winds, spitting rain and cool conditions.
STAC improves to 10-4 overall, while New Paltz falls to 9-3.
In doubles action, the maroon and gold swept all three matchups with No. 3 Elise Semmartin & Mar Caneves Bufi defeating Olivia Kunz & Nina Genzone, 6-1 followed by No. 2 Kateryna Kryuchkova & Sun Zhuoxuan besting Sydney Sladicka & Angelica Gabriel, 6-2 and No. 1 Courtney Fyvie & Elita Silins dispatching Justine Stanejko & Isabel van der Veen, 6-3 to take the first team point.
Once the sides moves to singles competition, STAC took care of business to earn another victory. No. 6 Sun Zhuoxuan was victorious over Olivia Grabowski 6-1, 6-1, No. 4 Kateryna Kryuchkova beat Amirah Alston 6-1, 6-0 and No. 5 Mar Caneves Bufi downed Olivia Kunz 6-1, 6-1 to secure the triumph. No. 3 Elise Semmartin won against Isabel van der Veen 6-1, 6-3, No. 2 Elita Silins defeated Sydney Sladicka 7-6 (5), 6-2 and No. 1 Courtney Fyvie sent Justine Stanejko packing 6-4, 7-6 (5) to preserve the shutout.
