SUNY-Geneseo Defeats Saint Joseph's of Maine in NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - #23 SUNY-Geneseo (15-3) defeated Saint Joseph's College (20-1), 19-2, in the opening round of the 2022 NCAA DIII Women's Lacrosse Tournament at Kohn Field on the campus of Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, SUNY-Geneseo – ranked 23rd nationally in the most recent IWLCA Poll – advances to the second round and will face #2 Middlebury College tomorrow at 1:00 PM.

For Saint Joseph's, the loss signals the end of the 2022 season.

The Knights took control right off the draw with three goals in the first three minutes and held a 7-0 lead before SJC sophomore Megan Mourmouras (Biddeford, Maine) scored a free-position tally with eight seconds left in the first quarter.

Freshman Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) netted her 30th goal of the season on a free-position attempt to make it a 12-2 game with 3:22 remaining in the first half.

Saint Joseph's freshman goalkeeper Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) made eight saves in the losing effort while Knights netminders Emily DeJohn and Margaret Rosaschi combined to turn away three shots while splitting the game in goal.

For the Monks, grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) picked up five draw controls and junior Tara Powers added three ground balls.

For the Knights, Molly Brown scored five goals with an assist and Madelynn Brown added four goals and three assists.
