TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches as it opened its home schedule with a tri-match against Penn State Harrisburg and SUNY Canton on Saturday at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. The Gophers dropped 3-0 decisions to the Nittany Lions and Kangaroos.
Against Harrisburg (4-1), set scores were 25-11, 25-18, 25-13.
Goucher (0-5) was led by five kills by Lucy Hendricks, while Imani Ward, Vivianne Lemay and Olivia DeBiasio each had three. Hendricks had 13 digs, while Athena Savick notched 11 digs. DeBiasio handed out nine assists. Penn State Harrisburg hit .186 as a team in the sweep.
SUNY Canton (3-3) prevailed in the nightcap by scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-13.
In the first set, the Gophers trailed 22-15 before using a 5-1 run capped by an attack error to pull within 23-20.
Ward hit .217 in game two and totaled seven kills, while Alex Dzhygit added four. Savick led the way defensively with 15 digs, while Ward posted 11. DeBiasio had 11 assists, while Hendricks and Dakota Hawkins each totaled two blocks against the 'Roos.
Goucher is idle until Tuesday, September 17 when it travels to Widener for a 7 pm non-conference match. The Gophers are back home on Saturday, September 21, hosting Hood and Gwynedd Mercy in a tri-match that begins at 10 am.
