Softball Scorches Sunday Duo; Becker is Perfect Again

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Falcons soared once again on Sunday afternoon at the PFX Spring Games. The Blue and White bounced Nichols and Cortland to improve to 8-1 on the season. CUW was commanding in the circle once again on Sunday and did not allow a run with Nicki Becker highlighting the day with a perfect game.

CUW started the day with a 3-0 victory over Nichols.

Freshman Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) started the scoring in the second inning with a no-doubt home run over the left-field fence in the second inning.

Senior Krystal Cortes (Aurora, Ill.) scored freshman Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) on a fielder's choice.

Junior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) scored on an error in the fifth inning.

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) hunted the Bison with 17 strikeouts in the victory. She carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before allowing two hits.

Sydney Erdmann and Megan Bloyer both had two hits in game one.

The Falcons then silenced the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland in six innings with an 8-0 victory.

Junior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) struck early with a double down the left-field line to score senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.) and Sydney Erdmann.

Jess Pozezinski added to the lead in the third inning on a single through the left side of the infield to send in freshman Anna Ruffolo (Addison, Ill.).

In the fourth inning, sophomore Madison Wheat (Cowerta, Okla.) scored junior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) on a blast in the infield.

Jess Pozezinski struck again in the fifth inning when she flew the ball past the foul pole in left field.

CUW secured three more runs in the sixth inning.

Sydney Erdmann doubled into the gap in right-center field to send in sophomore Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.). Erdmann scored off the bat of Kelsey Bollon.

Claudia Utz closed the scoring on a double down the left-field line to send Madison Wheat across the plate.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) was perfect once again when she had a perfect game and finished with 10 strikeouts.

Sydney Erdmann, Claudia Utz and Jess Pozezinski all had two hits in the victory. Utz had three RBI in the victory.

CUW did not allow a run all day including in the varsity reserve game. Freshman Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) scored sophomore Ashlyn Pagel (Appleton, Wis.) on a game-winning single in a 1-0 victory over Anderson (Ind.).

The Falcons continue the tournament on Monday with a tour of the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin when they face Carroll and North Central (Ill.).
