Cortland Captures First SUNYAC Men's Basketball Title in 13 Years

Box Score

SUNY Cortland won its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament title since 2000 with a 75-61 win over second-seeded Plattsburgh Saturday.

This is Cortland's second league title since the league re-started its tournament in 1980. The Red Dragons also won SUNYAC crowns in 1959 and 1961 in two of the league’s first three tournaments, and were also co-champions in 1969 based on regular-season record. Cortland had finished second in the SUNYAC tournament last year as well as 1997, 1999 and 2001.

The Red Dragons (23-4) earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Div. III playoffs and will be making their first national appearance since 2006. The NCAA pairings will be announced on Monday, Feb. 25, at 12:30 p.m. on NCAA.com and the first round is scheduled for Saturday, March 2.
