COMMISSIONER'S CUP STANDINGS AT COMPLETION OF WINTER SEASON

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings at the completion of the 2015-2016 winter conference championships with Geneseo, Oneonta and New Paltz at the top three spots.

Geneseo leads the conference with an average of 8.14 points after capturing three SUNYAC titles this winter. The Knights took home their 24th overall SUNYAC women's swimming and diving champion team title, 23rd men's swimming and diving title and their fourth overall ice hockey conference crown. The women's track and field and women's basketball teams also finished second in the conference championship. The men's track and field team was third in the championship meet. Geneseo won the Commissioner's Cup for the second time in 19 years last year.

Oneonta is second in the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings with an average of 7.62 points after the winter season. The women's indoor track and field team took first place at the SUNYAC championship with a score of 142.5. The men's track and field team placed fourth in the meet. Oneonta's women's basketball team finished fifth in the regular season and made it to the semifinals of the SUNYAC championship. Oneonta's women's swimming and diving team placed fourth during the SUNYAC championship and the men's team placed fifth.

New Paltz takes third place in the Commisioner's Cup standings with an average of 6.77 points. New Platz won its second-ever SUNYAC women's basketball title. The men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished second in the SUNYAC meet.

The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. Cross country, track and field and swimming and diving are based solely on their championship results. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.
