2023 SUNYAC Softball Championship Tournament - Day 1

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The SUNYAC completed day one of its double elimination softball tournament, Thursday at New Paltz's Mary Gray Deane Field.

No 1. New Paltz defeated No. 6 Oneonta, 3-1, in the first game of the day. No. 2 Cortland followed up with a 4-2 win against No. 5 Plattsburgh and No. 3 Geneseo topped No. 4 Buffalo State, 3-0.

In the first elimination game of the tournament, Oneonta outlasted Plattsburgh, 3-2, in eight innings.

New Paltz will play Buffalo State at 10 a.m. on Friday followed by Cortland and Geneseo at noon. The game at 3 p.m. will be between Oneonta and either the loser of Cortland/Geneseo or the winner of New Paltz/Buffalo State depending on the results.

Elite 20

The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. This year's softball winner is New Paltz's Rhionna Bianchini a junior math major with a cumulative GPA of 4.00.
