SUNYAC wraps up 2017 track & field weekly honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Atheltic Conference (SUNYAC) has released its final Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the 2017 season. The SUNYAC championship meet will be held at Cortland, Friday and Saturday.

Men's Track & Field – Field Athlete of the Week - Dawan Jones, Cortland
(Jr., - Buffalo, N.Y.)
Jones won the triple jump at the Cornell University Big Red Invitational with a distance of 14.81 meters (48' 7.25"). His performance is an ECAC qualifier and ranks him fifth nationally in Division III.

Men's Track & Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Isaac Garcia-Cassani, Geneseo
(Jr., - Holbrook, N.Y.)

Garcia-Cassani finished fourth in the Olympic Development Mile competition at the Penn Relays, Saturday. One of only two collegiate runners in the race and the only one from Division III, he crossed the finish line in 4:02.91 for the fastest mile ever posted by a Geneseo runner. 

Women's Track & Field – Field Athlete of the Week - Victoire Kothor, Brockport
(Jr., Throws - Greece, N.Y.)
Victoire Kothor put together a great performance at the Cardinal Classic this weekend. The junior won the shot put event, with a throw of 14.57-meters, which currently ranks first in the nation and set a new school mark. The Greece N.Y. native also won the hammer throw, reaching 50.03-meters and finished third in the discus throw, with a distance of 38.19-meters.

Women's Track & Field – Track Athlete of the Week - Dana Kupiec, Cortland
(Sr., - Salem, N.Y.)
Kupiec won the 400-meter hurdles at the Cornell University Big Red Invitational with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:01.71. She ranks eighth nationally in Division III in the event. Kupiec also ran a leg on Cortland's 4x100-meter relay team that finished third with an ECAC time of 48.52 seconds.
