The State University of New York at New Paltz, SUNY Cortland, Oswego State and Geneseo are amongst the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) schools with men's or women’s basketball teams ranked in the initial NCAA East Region rankings.

The NCAA regional rankings are based on the same criteria used to select and seed teams for the NCAA Championship Tournament.

The New Paltz women's basketball team is currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA East Region rankings with an overall record of 19-2 and is first in the conference, 13-1. Oswego State (14-7) and Geneseo (15-5) took the fourth and fifth spots respectively in the regional rankings.

The Cortland men's basketball team is second in the region with an overall record of 18-3. The Red Dragons are leading the conference, 12-2. Geneseo is sixth in the East Region rankings with an overall record of 14-7 and is second in the conference (10-4).
