SUNYAC Announces Women's Lacrosse All-Decade Team

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) releases its Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Decade, Coach of the Decade and All-Decade Team as nominated and voted on by the institution's sports information directors.

To be eligible for the All-Decade Team, athletes must have competed in the SUNYAC at least one season during the 2009-10 academic year through 2019-20 and athletes must have been named to the All-SUNYAC team at least two times or named Athlete of the Year once. Athlete and Coach of the Decade recipients were previously named SUNYAC Athlete of the Year or Coach of the Year. 

SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Decade - Lindsay Abbott, Cortland

Abbott played midfield for the Red Dragons from 2009-12. She was a four-time All-American, first team in 2011 and 2012; second team in 2009 and 2010. In 2011 Abbott was the womenslacrosse.com National Midfielder of the Year. She was a four-time first team All-Region, 2012 ECAC Mid Atlantic Offensive Player of the Year and 2010 first team All-ECAC Upstate NY. Abbott was the SUNYAC Player of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and was a four-time first team All-SUNYAC selection. The Red Dragons advanced to the NCAA Final Four in 2011 and 2012 and the NCAA second round in 2009 and 2010. Abbott was named to the 2011 NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team and was the 2009 SUNYAC Tournament MVP. Abbott led Cortland to four SUNYAC titles.

Abbott's career stats include 256 goals, 185 assists, 441 points, 159 ground balls, 316 draw controls and 94 caused turnovers in 86 games played. She is Cortland's career leader in goals, assists and points. She set the school single-season record with 138 points (including 62 goals) in 2011 and also is third with 130 points (including 71 goals) in 2012 (second in nation), and scored 72 goals as a freshman in 2009. Abbott set the school single-season record and led Division III nationally with 76 assists in 2011. She is third at Cortland in career draw controls and sixth in caused turnovers. She is also ranked sixth nationally in Division III in total points. 

SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Decade - Kathy Taylor, Cortland

Taylor tallied a five-year record of 101-10 (.910) from 2010-14. She left Cortland after the 2014 season to take the head coaching position at Le Moyne College. In those five seasons leading the Red Dragons, Taylor's teams captured five SUNYAC titles and had five NCAA appearances which included four national semifinal appearances (2011-14) and in 2010 Cortland finished tied for ninth nationally. Taylor was a four-time IWLCA Empire Region Coach of the Year (2011-14) and was honored as the SUNYAC Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2014. She was the 2011 ECAC Upstate New York Coach of the Year and the IWLCA North-South Senior Game North Squad Coach in 2012 and 2014.
