Geneseo and New Paltz set to play for SUNYAC tennis title

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -  Geneseo (9-0) and New Paltz (9-3), the No. 1 seed from the west and east divisions respectively, will play for the 2014 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tennis title, Sunday at 10 a.m. after winning semifinals, Saturday at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

The SUNYAC Championship team will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tennis Tournament in May, 2015

Geneseo is the three-time reigning SUNYAC champion and will face New Paltz for the ninth consecutive year to determine who will take home the 2014 SUNYAC tennis title. The Knights have won the crown seven times overall while the Hawks won four times overall, the latest in 2010.

In the first semifinal game Geneseo topped Cortland, 5-0. The Knights went 3-0 in doubles play and then Geneseo's No. 2 (C. Crummey) No. 5 (M Hahimoto) singles added two more wins to end the match (6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1)

New Paltz defeated Oneonta in the second semifinal match of the day, 5-0. The Hawks fought through a close No. 1 doubles (9-7) to take the 3-0 lead going into singles play.  New Paltz's No. 3 (V. Paikin) and No. 5 (C. Tyson) singles won 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 to finish the match.

In the consolation matches Brockport defeated Fredonia, 5-0 while Oswego beat Plattsburgh, 5-3.
