SUNYAC Ice Hockey Championship Set for Saturday

This weekend the State University of New York State Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Ice Hockey Championship will take place as the No. 1 seed Geneseo Knights take on the No. 3 seed Oswego State Lakers, Saturday night at Geneseo.

The Geneseo Knights won the regular season with a 14-2 in the conference and are currently 21-5 overall. They are led by Zachary Vit who will look to make his senior year memorable by winning the SUNYAC Championship at home. Geneseo had a bye the first round and then defeated Buffalo State 2-0 to advance to the SUNYAC Championship.

The Oswego State Lakers who finished third in the conference standings (10-5-1) and are currently 19-6-2 overall look to pull the upset this year. The Lakers have a very strong squad all around and have the sensational freshman Matt Galati who leads the team in points. Oswego defeated No. 6 seed Fredonia State 3-2 in the quarterfinals, and then pulled the upset in the semifinals defeating SUNY Plattsburgh 2-1 to move on to the championship to face Geneseo.

Who will win the Men's Ice Hockey SUNYAC Championship? Will Geneseo be able to close out a great season by winning the championship for the fourth time overall and get an automatic bid to the Division III National Championship? Or will Oswego continue their run and knock off the top seed Geneseo to win their 10th SUNYAC title and steal a spot in the Division III National Championship Bracket? Tune in Saturday to find out.
