The Player of the Year was awarded to Zachary Vit (Villanova, Pa/ Bridgewater Bandits previous team) from Geneseo; Rookie of the Year went to Matt Galati (Toronto, Ontario/ St. Michael's Buzzers, previous team) from Oswego State and Geneseo's Chris Schultz was named Coach of the Year.
Zachary Vit who is this year's SUNYAC Player of the Year leads the Knights compiling 28 points with 18 goals and 10 assists. He helped lead Geneseo to the top seed in the conference after the regular season, 14-2 and is currently 21-6 overall as they head into the NCAA Tournament. Vit was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team after a tough loss to Oswego, 7-6, in the SUNYAC Championship, but the Knights later received an at-large bid into the tournament. Zachary is a senior who will be graduating in the spring with a major in communications and a minor in psychology.
Rookie of the Year goes to Matt Galati who is having a great freshmen season as he leads his team totaling 33 points with 23 goals and 10 assists. Oswego State finished third in the conference regular season with a record of 19-6-2, but went on to grab their second-straight and 10th overall SUNYAC title in an astonishing 7-6 victory over Geneseo. With the title, the Lakers received an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament and will host Bowdoin College Wednesday. Galati will hope to continue to have the kind of season he had this year for his remaining time at Oswego State.
Geneseo knights Head Coach Chris Schultz was named Coach of the Year for the second-straight year and third time overall. Schultz led Geneseo to the best regular season record of the SUNYAC, 14-2 and is 21-6 overall. Geneseo just fell short of winning the SUNYAC Championship Saturday as they lost to Oswego 7-6, but earned an at-large bid into the NCAA's. Coach Schultz will lead the Knights to the NCAA Division III Tournament and hope to have another great run to capture the championship. Geneseo will host Nichols Wednesday in the first round of the tournament. This is Schultz's eighth season coaching the Knights. In the eight seasons Schultz has compiled a career record of 118-82-7. Schultz's teams have earned home playoff positioning in six of his seven seasons at the helm; four of which the team reached the SUNYAC semifinals.
