New Paltz Sweeps SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has chosen New Paltz teammates Anthony Senecal and Ryan Steinhart as the Men's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.

Senecal had a career game against Brockport, finishing with a career-best six points including the overtime game-winning goal to push the Hawks to the postseason for the first time in program history. He ended the game with a team-high six points as well on a team-leading four goals with two assists, with three of his four goals coming in the fourth quarter to tie at five, then give his team a 6-5 and 7-5 cushion before the Golden Eagles came back to tie in regulation. The ball was back in his stick to start the fourth with Brockport doubling ball on a man-up, but Senecal beat both defenders to cage for the game-winning man-down goal. In another overtime win over Oneonta Wednesday, Senecal scored two goals. On the week, he added three ground balls to go along with eight points.

Steinhart was huge in a pair of double overtime victories that helped the Hawks get into the playoffs for the first time ever this past week. He totaled double-digit saves in both outings against Oneonta and Brockport, totaling 16 in a 14-13 overtime win over Oneonta and 19 in an 8-7 overtime win over the Golden Eagles. He was clutch in the fourth and fifth periods of both those games, combining for six stops with just four goals allowed in that span combined in the two wins.
