SUNYAC Announces 2023 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Top Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC releases the 2023 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie, and Coaching Staff of the Year awards as voted on by the conference coaches.

Women's Outdoor Track and Field Track Athlete and Rookie of the Year - Nat Sawyer, Buffalo State 
Sawyer wrapped-up her debut season for the Bengals by becoming a national champion in the 400-meter hurdles with a facility-record time of 58.66 seconds. Sawyer earned All-American honors in the event and also finished 11th in the 100-meter hurdles at NCAA championships. She was also named the USTFCCCA All-Niagara Female Track Athlete of the Year after earning All-Niagara Region honors in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, and was part of the 4x400-meter relay. She earned first team All-SUNYAC honors in the 400-meter hurdles, and 4x400-meter relay and second team All-SUNYAC honors in the 100-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay. Sawyer was also named the SUNYAC Most Valuable Performer of the Meet and SUNYAC Most Outstanding Performance. She set a meet record at the SUNYAC championships in the 400-meter hurdles, and set the Buffalo State and SUNYAC record in the event.

Women's Outdoor Track and Field Field Athlete of the Year – Isabella Fabrizio, Oneonta
Fabrizio was the SUNYAC champion in the shot put and went on to finish second at the AARTFC meet and 21st at the NCAA Division III championship meet. She also competed in the hammer throw and discus finishing sixth and 14th at the conference championship meet respectively.

Women's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year - Geneseo
The Geneseo women's track and field coaching staff is led by head coach Chris Popovici and is assisted by Dan Moore, Kyle Rollins, Ashton Fischer, Camille Wutz, Maddie Herbert, Christian Johnson and Gerald Meade. This season, the Knights won their sixth-straight and 15th overall SUNYAC team title in 2023. At the NCAA Division III championship meet three different athletes earned All-American honors and the team finished 37th overall.
